Zbigniew Preisner Silence, Night & Dreams

Silence, Night & Dreams is Zbigniew Preisner's latest orchestral project. Without the constraints of a film screen, the work is an atmospheric and spiritual one, based on the Book of Job and Matthew's Gospel. It incorporates orchestra, choir, soloists and gentle electronics. This is a truly sensational work and a breathtaking performance.

Aberdeen (original soundtrack)
[UP digital exclusive - for download only]

Hans Petter Moland's film Aberdeen is about a young woman who is forced to take her drunken father by sea and road from Oslo to the hospital in Aberdeen where her mother is dying. The film stars Lena Headey, Stellan Skarsgard, Charlotte Rampling and Ian Hart. A European "Paris, Texas", this is one of the great "lost" films of recent years; it has never been released in UK cinemas or on DVD.

Preisner's haunting score is performed by a group of English, Swedish and Polish musicians, including the guitarist John Parricelli, the bass-player Andy Pask, the pianist Leszek Mozdzer, the saxophonist Jerzy Glowczewski and the keyboard player Stefan Sendecki. Stina Nordenstam's extraordinary vocals perfectly complement the enigmatic mood of the film.

La Double Vie de Veronique
[UP digital exclusive - for download only]

Starring Irene Jacob as Veronique and Weronika, Kieslowski explores the subject of human fragility through a highly imaginative dual narrative, addressing the possibility that we each have a spiritual twin. Preisner's score contains some of his most well-known themes, particularly "Van den Budenmayer Concerto in E minor" and "Les Marionnettes". The soundtrack is performed by the Grand Orchestra of Katowice and the Philharmonic Choir of Silesia, conducted by Antoni Wit. Soloists include the soprano Elzbieta Towarnicka the recorder player Jacek Ostaszewski.
