Hans Petter Moland’s film Aberdeen is about a young woman who is forced to take her drunken father by sea and road from Oslo to the hospital in Aberdeen where her mother is dying. The film stars Lena Headey, Stellan Skarsgard, Charlotte Rampling and Ian Hart. A European “Paris, Texas”, this is one of the great “lost” films of recent years; it has never been released in UK cinemas or on DVD.
Preisner’s haunting score is performed by a group of English, Swedish and Polish musicians, including the guitarist John Parricelli, the bass-player Andy Pask, the pianist Leszek Mozdzer, the saxophonist Jerzy Glowczewski and the keyboard player Stefan Sendecki. Stina Nordenstam’s extraordinary vocals perfectly complement the enigmatic mood of the film.
